The Twenty-One Positions of the Balance Pyramid
Twenty-one positions make up the pyramid — eight on the inner axis, eight on the material, five on the spine. Each is named and linked here.
The Balance Pyramid is the structural map at the centre of the Balance Codex method, and it resolves into twenty-one positions. Each position describes one facet of who a person is — how they meet themselves, how they meet the world, the talents they carry, and the work that belongs to each season of their life. Read together, the positions are the method’s full portrait of a person. Read one at a time, each is a doorway into a specific part of that portrait. The shape that holds them — the triangular topology, the apex, the base of five — is the subject of the Balance Pyramid page; this page names the positions themselves.
Every position holds a value: one of the twenty-two universal energies, the energy that has landed there in a particular person’s pyramid. What each of those values means in its own right belongs to the energies. Here the subject is the positions — the places those energies occupy — not the energies that fill them.
The twenty-one positions fall into three groups. Eight sit on the inner axis: what a person carries within, their relation to themselves. Eight sit on the material axis: how that same person meets and shapes the outer world. Five run up the central spine, and these read as time — the unfolding of a life from its foundation to the mission a person grows into. Each position on the inner side has a counterpart on the material side, and these eight mirrored pairs are the method’s central structural insight; how one side answers the other is the subject of the inner and material axes.
The inner axis
These eight positions describe a person’s relation to themselves — the personality only they know, the gifts they were born with, the longings and the work that belong to their inner life.
They are: Inner Personality, who a person is to themselves before the world sees them; Main Task, the core task a person carries, the thread their growth runs along; Innate Talent, the gift present from the start, native to a person; Cultivated Talent, that innate gift in its developed form, opened through experience and skill; Desire of the Soul, the inner longing, what a person reaches for from within; Sexuality, inner vitality, the life-force a person carries; Relationships, the inner-relational life, how a person is built to bond; and Zone of Growth, the edge a person’s development pushes against.
The material axis
These eight mirror the inner positions, turned outward — how a person shows up, works, earns, and takes their place among others.
They are: Higher Self in Society, how a person shows up to the world, the self others meet; Entry into the Material World, how the core task takes concrete, outward form; Recognized Talent, the gift others see and name in a person; Monetized Talent, that recognised gift realised and earned from in the world; Desire of the Heart, the outward-facing longing, what a person reaches for in the world; Profession, a person’s outer vocation, the work they do; Finances, the material-relational life, a person’s footing with money; and Advancement, where growth shows up in practical terms, including where money comes from.
The central spine
Five positions run up the centre of the pyramid and answer to no side. They read as the seasons of a life, coming online in turn as a person ages — a sequence laid out in full on how the pyramid unfolds across a life.
They are: Foundation, the base a life is built from; Force / Spirit, the energetic centre of the pyramid; Karmic Task Before 40, the developmental work of the first half of life; Karmic Task After 40, the developmental work of the second; and Mission, the apex — the life a person grows into once the base is built and both tasks are met.
All twenty-one positions are computed for a specific person from their birth date, and the same date always produces the same pyramid. To see which of the twenty-two energies sits at each of your own positions, calculate your Balance Pyramid; the report then reads every position in turn.
